Calculation method
The power required to heat one ton of round steel can be calculated using the following formula:
Q = mc¡÷T
Where:
- Q is the required heat (joules).
- m is the mass of the round steel (kg).
- c is the specific heat capacity of the round steel (J/kg¡¤¡ãC), and the specific heat capacity of commonly used steel is about 460 J/kg¡¤¡ãC.
- ¡÷T is the temperature change (¡ãC).
Example calculation
Assume that one ton (1000 kg) of round steel is heated from room temperature (20¡ãC) to 1000¡ãC:
¡÷T = 1000 - 20 = 980¡ãC
Q = 1000 kg¡Á460J/kg/cdotp¡ãC¡Á980¡ãC
Q = 450,800,000 J
Convert joules to kilowatt-hours (1 kWh = 3,600,000 J):
Q¡Ö125kWh
This is only a theoretical calculation. The actual energy consumption also needs to consider equipment efficiency and various heat losses. Assuming the overall efficiency of the heating furnace is 70% (i.e. the actual energy required is 1.43 times the theoretical value):
Qactual = 125kWh¡Á1.43 ¡Ö179kWh
Energy consumption range in actual use
In actual industrial applications, due to heat loss and equipment efficiency, the actual energy consumption for heating one ton of round steel is usually between 180 kWh and 250 kWh.
